Report Trade Mission Vietnam from 4 March 2019 till 12 March 2019

In March 2019, Twiss International organized a small scale trade mission for Dutch companies in cooperation with Emmen Municipality and supported by NLinBusiness.

The focus of the mission was on Recycling and Logistics. 10 entrepreneurs joined the mission. Furthermore, the Mayor of Emmen and the Director of Economic Affairs of the province of Drenthe as well as the Management of Dutch Tech Zone and NHL Stenden, University of Applied Sciences, and Drenthe College, Intermediate Vocational Education, joined. In Drenthe we have set up an infrastructure in which entrepreneurs, Emmen municipality and Educational institutions cooperate closely in the Vietnam – Drenthe project. Entrepreneurs are supported to set up business with Vietnamese partners, Vietnamese and Dutch students and lecturers are exchanged within the project and research is conducted and the municipality and the province facilitate when necessary.

The matchmaking for the companies was the key point of the mission. The matchmaking took place in Ho Chi Minh City, thé business centre of Vietnam, and Binh Duong, a prominent province and Smart City in Southern Vietnam. Twiss carefully prepared for the matchmaking by interviewing the participating companies and then look for suitable partners in Vietnam. Twiss has a Vietnamese partner that has a large network in Vietnam and in both Ho Chi Minh City and Binh Duong in particular.

ITEC Vietnam was established during the mission at the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City. ITEC stands for International Trade and Expert Centre and does research for companies that would like to enter the Vietnamese or Dutch Market. At NHL Stenden, a partner of the University of Economics HCMC, ITEC NHL Stenden was established in 2016. The two ITEC’s work closely together.

NlinBusiness (, which supports MKB companies to set up business in foreign cities and regions, supported us because their focus in Vietnam is on the Ho Chi Minh City area.

Apart from the matchmaking a lunch seminar on logistics and recycling was organized by the Dutch Business Association Vietnam in cooperation with NLinBusiness and Twiss International.

We were also invited for an evening session at the Dutch consulate. The Dutch Consul in HCMC and his staff invited local entrepreneurs to meet with the Dutch visitors.

On the last day we visted Becamex/Binh Duong, with whom Emmen signed an MOU in 2016. The guests were informed and given a tour of the city to learn about what the leadership of Binh Duong in cooperation with Becamex has established and about their future plans.

Most of the participants were in Vietnam for the first time and impressed by the developments in the country, the friendliness of the people they met and pleased with the contacts they have established.
